I watch, over harbours, the sun die down in the distance
In a last clatter of darkness and silence .
Far away, boats have shadows as blue as sapphire;
They are lost in a drainage that goes rejoining the black tide.
I see their bellying sails, with their chests inflated
Like that of an athlete showing up amidst crowds,
His body stark naked. The faces of excited women
Watching, as I do, the boats on the swell.
O, my faraway love,
When will you bring to me
Your face and your hands?
Has your loving died down ?
For such a long time already
I've been so forsaken.
Bring a little joy
To the sad prisoner.
I watch the sky in the night-sun,
In the faraway dimensions, stars get intertwined.
My spirit raves and roves and escapes to them.
Over there, amidst the skies, dancing, the day goes by,
And everything passes away, standing, as hanged men do,
Swung by the breeze, eaten up by crows.
The nearly- dead lie down in beds,
Thinking anxiously of the future in graves.
O, my faraway love,
When shall I see your eyes
In the clear morning light?
When shall we be the two of us?
I dream of your skin.
When, under the laurel-tree, you lay yourself.
Bring some relief
To the sad prisoner.
I watch the hills under the stretching night
Dogs yelp as they run after the game.
Soon, we shall be able to see a nice burial:
The hunter's head used as a candlestick
For the horned beast that leads the ball.
After the joy of dances, we shall eat the dogs
The dead are invited. Wolves or jackals
Will take part to the orgy until dawn.
O my faraway love
When will you again lie under me
Fornicating under pine-trees,
Shouting; Love is King?
I dream of your breasts
That nourished me so much.
O bring a little wine
To the sad prisoner.
I look at the yard through the bars
Already, night goes down and day goes up.
Soon, I'll be able to see men from up above.
With the wind swinging me restlessly from side to side
I'll be smoking my last cig, having a last puff
Searching for the truth on my convict's life
Tomorrow, black angels will comme and eat
The left-overs of the carcass of the old prisoner.
O my faraway love,
Only distant from three corridors away,
Above all, think of nothing
Or think of me and sleep
Tomorrow, I'll be far away
Lost among the damned
Do not follow the path
Of the sad damned man.
