English fantastique Tim Burton Vincent Price animation
For those of you who liked my previous selection, here is a poem written by Tim Burton, and set to animation under his supervision and direction.
He made this film while working at the Disney studios at the beginning of his promising carreer. Although he always did have unconventional tastes in animation, definitely not Disney-ish, the powers that be gave him a free rein to experiment, and the budget to do so (at least in the early days). And a great thing that was, too, or we'd never have had such gems as this!!!
Vincent is the story of a young boy who craves fantasy literature, and whose ambition in life is to resemble Vincent Price, actor extraordinaire whose voice has sent shivers through millions of film goers. Just remember him in Michael Jackson's Thriller !!! That was an amazing reading, quite worrisome and with that "beyond the grave" quality he used to impart so well.
The poem also refers to "The raven" (or Nevermore) by Edgar Allan Poe, who is the character's favourite author.
To hear it, find it in my previous post, right here:

The real treat is that the reading of the poem is done by none other than Vincent Price who, again, manages to raise your hair with his soft yet poignant rendering of the poetry.

I've always adored Tim Burton, whose wacky sense of humor is quite attractive, funny, yet at the same time rather frightening. One wonders what he was like as a child, although to this I have a few answers, in the very good interview book compiled by a journalist friend of his (I can't for the life of me remember the title at the moment... ). It's really quite amazing to realize how creative and versatile he is, even in poetry, which is , to say the least, not his usual media.
Again... enjoy !!!
