Here it is; as I said, I started writing this poem as soon as I'd heard the result, after spending the entire night at my computer, not sleeping so I could be appraised of the situation within the very first minute. Although I'm not very well versed in politics, and do not wish to turn this blog into a political diatribe, I am so happy Senator Barack Obama has been elected, as I truly believe he will be the vector of change.
Anyhow, here is my enthusiastic offering...
Smiling reassuringly,
The Black man, tall upon the stand,
Looks around confidently
As he slowly waves his hand.
On his shoulders falls the cloak
Of a country’s hopes, a nation’s dreams ;
And city yuppies or country folk
Hail his speeches for their themes,
Believing him to be The One,
The way out of troubled days ;
The man whose will for change has won.
He’ll lead them all out of the maze,
Chanting down the path « Yes We Can »,
Eliciting change deep from within
From every woman, child and man…
Now let the adventure begin !

Election Night
In honour of President Barack Obama,
First coloured President of the U.S.A.
First coloured President of the U.S.A.
Smiling reassuringly,

As he slowly waves his hand.
On his shoulders falls the cloak
Of a country’s hopes, a nation’s dreams ;
And city yuppies or country folk

To carry such heaviness
On his weak human shouders
May prove to be a prowess
That no man can achieve,
Unless the One above,
In Whom he must believe,
Holds him high in his love.
